Ready Player One was cool because it combines two very cool things, video games and the post apocalypse. Although RPO isn’t exactly set in a post apocalypse it very much looks like the dystopian precursor to one what with all the pollution, overpopulation, and tyrannical capitalist corporatocracy. It puts the idea on the table that the digital world, even if completely virtual, is more beautiful and lively than the real world to the point where the virtual world becomes close to if not just as important as the real world. This is a very dangerous idea to have especially if you’ve got a corporatocracy willing to continue pillaging the planet’s resources and ransacking the environment while you have your eyes covered. In the end though, the world of RPO makes strides towards a better future and I hope we have our eyes open when its most important.
